The Love Of Emily Brown (pt.1)

It has been hours since I sit here on this bench in the park where Emily Brown and I supposed to meet. No no no, we're not supposed to go to cinema to watch movie. There isn't any good movies showing on theatre since Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas was playing last month. But today, Emily Brown and I planned to go on a picnic on the top of the hill, just a few hundred meters at the northwest of the town. It's a very nice hill, I'm telling you. The grasses are short and comfy, and I mean really comfy. You can lay yourself there without even have to worry about the itchy-spiky-grassy-thing. When you lay yourself on it, all you need to think about is how beautiful life is if the sky always blue like that

We, Emily Brown and I, planned to eat our sandwiches there. Or we would watch the sea with ships sailing from and to our town's harbour with seagulls flying around them. It's a very nice little town we had. You should come here and you'll find a million reasons to stay here for a long time. The people are friendly to outsiders. The scenery is beautiful. You could ask me to accompany you for a trip around the town (it's free of charge). I'll take you walking to the windmill (it has this very great river-side view), or watching the sea from the cliff (yep, great scenery indeed), or just collecting stuff we used to collect at the beach: sands, shells, stones, and others. If you're lazy, you can go to Sally the Seashells Seller down by the sea shore. She sells only shells with best quality. It's rather expensive though, but quite worth it. My dad buys a shell that can produce the sound of the sea. It almost cost him a million. If you put the shell close to your ear, you can hear the sound of the waves, the seagulls, or even the mermaid's singing. She's so famous all around the world. If you've heard the song "Sally sells seashells down by the sea shore", then it's the song about our famous Sally. She's still young, only twenty. But young Sally is kind and pretty, so many people remember her. And because of her kindness and prettiness, they wrote a song about Sally the Seashells Seller.

But what I like most is watching the sky under the old willow tree on the top of the hill. My Dad told me that the old willow tree has been here for ages since his great-great-(I don't know how many great there are exactly) grandfather. The kids on that time used to play here too like me. My grandpa (that is my daddy's dad) built a hideout here once, on the old willow tree, with his friends. The tree-house wasn't big, they call it castle. It was made from woods they could find in the junkyard. They made the castle on their own, without getting any help from the old people.

Wow, if I listened to grandpa's story, it really amused me a lot. It makes me want to build my own tree-house. But kids these days doesn't have a lot of time to play somewhere, parents just wanted their children to stay in the house and doing school's homeworks. I seldom got myself out and pretend that I didn't have any homework. I hate homeworks, especially about mathematics. The only lesson I like is history. But the history teacher rarely gives an assignment to do, so I don't really like him.

When I sneak out, I have to be careful so Mrs. Bloomberg couldn't see me. She always tells me to do my homework even when tomorrow is a holiday. And I think she knows that I used to go to the hill. Sometimes she tells me about the haunted hill that has so many ghosts craving from inside the ground and other scary things about the hill. Of course it just a silly story to frightened little kids. Every time I went there, there's nothing scary like she told me before. She just wants to watch me dying by staying at home rather than playing outside. That's why I don't like her, she only tells you lie. I never like people who told lies to other, eventhough it's for the children's own sake.
But hey, a raindrop falls on my head. It realizes me that it's almost 5 and Mommy will get mad at me if I'm not home at 5. So I packed my lunch pack again - I ate few cheese sandwiches when I was waiting Emily - and get up from the bench. I look at the bench again to make sure that I don't left something. Then I turn around and walk out from the park to my home.

But in my mind I began to ask, where is Emily Brown and why did she not come to the park?
